Places to Visit
Samokov town and the Lord’s House are perfectly located for a wide range of activities.
* Skiing, of course. Many slopes of varying difficulty and also great cross country routes.
* Mountain walking. The Rila mountains are an amazing place to get away from it all. Pure air and stunning unspoilt scenery
* Horse riding. This is a popular activity and can be hired by the day, with or without a guide.
* Motor bike rising. Samokov has a well know dirt track for motor cross. Check out videos on youtube.
* Water skiing. Not the first thing you’d think of for a mountain property, but the huge Lake Iskar only 12 kms down the road is great for this sport. In fact, the lake is like an inland sea, so you have both the mountains and beach together!
* Tennis: there are courts for hire
* And after the outdoor exercise, why not visit one of the town’s restaurants? From simple pizzeria to very fancy upmarket places. There is also a wide range of bars in the town and up in Borovets itself.
* Shopping. In Samokov and for the really Big City experience, head to Sofia.
Rila Mountains
A paradise for skiiers, walkers and climbers The Rila mountains seem to be a piece of the Alps thrown into the heart of the Balkans with many peaks above 2000m, divided by stunning glacial valleys and lakes. The mountains are considered a very popular place for Bulgarian rock climbers and mountaineers and many foreign climbers will join them once the word spreads. The area is extremely beautiful and offers sites such as a 100m waterfall, overhanging 300m red granite walls, centuries-old forests, beautiful lakes and rivers. One of the most popular property sale places in Rila is undoubtedly the region of the seven Rila lakes. Situated one above the other the lakes form a brilliant necklace of crystal blue water basins.
Rila Monastry
No trip to Bulgaria would be complete without a trip to the Rila Monastery, the country's most famous monastery, which is renowned for its fabulous architecture and dramatic setting in the Rila mountain range. It is an improbable and magical citadel situated deep in the forest, and as breathtaking as the Rila mountains themselves. A must for the visitor to see.
