Why Samokov?

Only 1 hour from Bulgaria’s capital city of Sofia and the nearest town to Borovets ski resort, Samokov is the largest town in the region. Its strategic location ensures that connection links to Sofia are very good

Regional centre

The Samokov oblast encompasses over 30 small villages and towns with residents of these areas visiting Samokov on a regular basis due to the expanding facilities such as more shops, markets, leisure activities etc. Many tourists staying Borovets and nearby resorts such as Malyovitsa visit Samokov for shopping on a regular basis. The town is becoming a holiday destination in its own right with the number of hotels in creasing due to demand and a new ski lift and ski run constructed within the town.

High investment

Samokov is included in the government approved Super Borovets Project where 300-400 million Euros are to be invested in this area. New ski facilities and other leisure facilities will be built along with improvement of local infrastructure in the town will happen.

A large new sports hall is currently under construction on Iskar Boulevard which the Samokov Municipality is funding. Costing 15 Million BGN and including tennis courts, football pitch, swimming pool and spa centre, it will boost summer tourism and provide extra sporting activities to the local population.

Ski area

New ski facilities have been built in the town with a new lift and kilometre long ski run. Designed to provide extra activities for tourists in winter, it will no doubt draw more visitors to the town and local hotels. The lift was funded as part of a joint municipality-private venture known as the Iskrovete Project.

General infra-structure improvements within the town have been happening such as revamping the central shopping area, re-surfacing roads and extending the gas system among other things. Private companies have constructed new retail premises in the central zone of Samokov, a sure sign of a growing economy where the increasingly wealthier residents demand more facilities.
